We value people, Gavin Hubbard

As someone relatively new to IHC Scott, Gavin Hubbard has appreciated working for a large company with a stable backing.

“During school, I did three full summer internships,” Gavin said. “One was with one of IHC Scott’s partners. That’s when I was first exposed to the company. I learned that IHC was being merged with Scott Contracting, and I thought that was a smart business move. It’s a big company in Colorado and Wyoming, and I’m excited to continue to watch the company grow.”

Gavin didn’t always plan to go into construction, but he quickly found it to be an extremely prevalent field with lots of job security.

“Growing up, my dad was an electrician—that’s in tune with some of the things that go on in construction,” Gavin said. “I didn’t really plan on going into the field until my sophomore year of college. Before that, I was on the engineering path, but I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. I just wasn’t crazy about anything until I gave construction a try and it seemed to fit. I haven’t looked back since. It was a great decision.”

After graduating from Colorado State University, Gavin landed with IHC Scott and moved forward from there.

“I’m a project engineer,” Gavin said. “I try to keep the work flowing right. There’s paperwork that we need to get done, issues with permits and materials, and anything else that comes up in the field. It’s my job to try and mitigate those problems so we can keep moving and stay efficient.”

As Gavin improves processes and mitigates problems, he helps IHC Scott aim to be the best in the business. He values the opportunity to do so from a wide range of different areas.

“I love the diversity of work we have here every day,” Gavin said. “Sometimes at a job you can get into lulls where it feels like you’re doing the same thing over and over again. But every day is truly different here. You’re busy learning stuff that you may not have experienced before. That diversity is what I was interested in when I joined the company.”

Gavin keeps his eyes open to the future of IHC Scott, believing that he can make a fulfilling career here.

“The future is bright,” Gavin said. “I’m very hopeful for the upwards trajectory that we have at IHC Scott and Clyde Companies. Personally, I want to learn as much as I can about different areas of work. That just takes time and experience, but it’s where I can grow the most.”

As a recent addition to the full-time workforce, Gavin knows how important it is to make sure that you love what you do—as he does while working at IHC Scott.

“Maybe it’s a little cliche, but when you love what you do every day, it gets easy,” Gavin said. “It gets to where you truly do enjoy going to work, which I think is a struggle for a lot of people. I know it was going to be a struggle if I stayed on a true engineering track. If you find something that you enjoy and are passionate about, then you’re almost bound to do a good job and enjoy it. You’re going to learn a lot, and it’s going to be a good experience for everyone from employer to employee.”
